fluttering birthday

It seems I've been blogging about Sidney a lot lately----but it IS her special birthday month, so here is one more: The Butterfly Birthday Party!

We started out the fun by decorating paper butterflies and applying butterfly tattoos on all the little girls.

Then we read some butterfly books (you can see them behind the cute little sister of the Birthday Girl).

Butterfly nets came in very handy for our backyard butterfly hunt!

All that hunting left our fluttering girls hungry for sweets! We sang Happy Birthday to the Birthday Butterfly and ate cupcakes and had (pink, of course) ice cream in the shape of butterflies.

Sidney was spoiled by all of her family and friends!

lucky me

Some days I wonder what on earth made me want to be a mom. Some days I wonder why I am doing this. Some days I want to run far away. But most days I know I'm the luckiest girl alive. I have three beautiful children that are full of personality and spirit. They are sweet (usually), smart (most of the time), and funny (except when they are trying too hard, then it's just obnoxious).

Child #3 had already left for school this morning when I pulled out the camera, but rest assured he's just as beautiful.

I'm filled with love and gratitude for my children at this moment. Granted, at this moment, the two older ones are at school and the baby is sleeping, but that's besides the point.

I'm a lucky, lucky mom!

B.O.'s First Thing

Barrack Obama has said "The first thing I will do as president is sign the Freedom of Choice Act." Really? The First Thing?

Our Country is in economic turmoil and in the middle of a war and the First Thing you will do is sign an act that eliminates state laws that limit abortion and invalidate any pro-life laws passed since Roe v. Wade? The first thing you will do is allow abortion-on-demand for all 9 months of pregnancy? Repeal the partial birth abortion ban! And even better, let's remove the ban allowing the Government to help pay for it. That is an awesome solution. Our country is in debt beyond any one's reasonable comprehension and The First thing you'll do is use government funds to kill a baby? And to make it quicker, smoother, and less trouble for everyone, no pre-abortion education or waiting period required!

What other political issue results in the murder of 1.2 million American children each year? Oh. None.

getting into the fall spirit

All of the cuties at Sidney's preschool got to pretend to be Scarecrows for the day. I know I'm biased, but I thought mine was the cutest Scarecrow of all!

oh say can you see?

Unfortunantly, the answer for Sidney was "No." But we had no idea! Sidney's preschool teacher let me know that Sid was squinting a lot at preschool, especially during storytime and such. We thought Sidney was just being her usual quirky self, but did take her to the eye doctor just in case... Turns out, she couldn't see. But she can now!

Sidney got her glasses just before going to preschool on Thursday and stared around in amazement at the leaves on the trees, the rocks on the ground and everything else around her. "It looks so different mom!" she said. We, of course, feel terrible that she hasn't been able to see well all this time (but know it's not our fault).

Yesterday afternoon, she was playing and said "Hey! There's lines on the tile!" All this time, Sidney didn't know that the tile had grout lines. I figure if that's the height of what she's missed, she'll be okay!
